As consultants, we make our living by our ability to solve problems. And we expend a lot of time and energy to learn new and better solutions to the problems our clients bring to us. Yet we often do not stop to reflect on the problem solving process itself.

Our February speaker, Jerry L. Talley, has over 30 years of consulting experience and has had the opportunity to watch organizations from almost every segment of the economy struggle with problems they couldn't solve. Learn how he uses his technical expertise to shape the conversation so that parties address the essence of the problem instead of the distracting and flagrant symptom. The problem as presented was not the real problem; the more fundamental issue was their problem solving process.

Join us for this presentation that proposes that there are only 6 types of problems in the world:

  • Puzzles
  • Problems That Are Too Rich
  • Uncertainties
  • Dilemmas
  • Disputes
  • Complexities

The key to effective (and efficient) problem solving is not knowing all the answers, but rather being able to discern the essential problem type at the beginning. Each problem type is associated with unique requirements for a solution, and a unique path for finding that solution.
